    The Employees (Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1952 ("EPF Act”) applies inter alia to establishments employing 20 (twenty) or more employees whose wage does not exceed Rs. 6,500/- (Rupees Six Thousand Five Hundred) per month. All establishments to which the EPF Act applies are required to either constitute their own provident fund scheme or subscribe to the statutory employees provident fund scheme managed by the Commissioner of Provident Fund in the relevant State.

  • Penalty

    Under Section 14 of the EPF Act, any person who avoids any payment under the EPF Act or knowingly makes any false statement or false representation is punishable (a) with imprisonment for a term of 1 (one) year or (b) with a fine of Rs. 5,000/- (Rupees Five Thousand) or (c) with both.
